Sense Of Smell

Something that we haven't mentioned before now is that for the last two years I have had no sense of smell. Polyps in my nose had became badly infected and very swollen, meaning that I couldn't breathe through my nose or smell anything.
With the help of a specialist I finally got the infection under control and can now breathe and smell again.
The reason for writing this is that when we have a good sense of smell, we can often take it for granted.
As you can imagine, choosing new fragrance oils was a struggle for me (make that impossible) so this has been done by Cheryl and a few fragrance testers.
Since getting my sense of smell back I have become highly aware of fragrances/smells/aromas. Walking through a field of almost totally dried bean crops hit me with spicy notes whilst walking through trees providing heavy shade had more musty notes.
Passing through the house I smell the different reed diffusers or wax melts that have been burnt,
Simple things like grinding the beans for my morning coffee are now much more enjoyable. That's a smell that I will never tire of!
Visitors to our warehouse always comment on how much they like the smell as they walk through the door. Until recently I had forgotten how the mix of fragrance oils greeted us at the unit.
One thing that did strike me is how much our brain remembers certain fragrances. When I had lost my sense of smell I could still recall the fragrance notes of different fragrance oils and can now instantly recognise some of my favourites.
I could go on. Needless to say, I won't be taking my sense of smell for granted.
Since the swelling has subsided I have had the polyps removed. I am still recovering but am glad to say that still have a good sense of smell. Hopefully it will only improve over time.
