CLP and Augeo Clean Multi
Posted by andrew sanderson on
There have been quite a few questions recently asking if you can use the wax melt / candle CLP when making home fragrance products with Augeo Clean Multi. The CLP you use for wax is calculated using fragrance oil in a non hazardous base (wax being non hazardous). Augeo Clean multi is hazardous so a new CLP needs to be created for the combination of your Augeo base and your fragrance oil. Some oil suppliers provide these so check that you are using the correct CLP for your product combination. We have created a blog tutorial on how to make a reed diffuser so please refer to this and check the IFRA document before starting to make your product. In this blog we will go through the SDS and CLP for Augeo Clean Multi.
Is it good practice to download and read the SDS for each raw material you use for making your home fragrance. In this blog we will concentrate on looking at the hazard identification and the CLP label elements for the Augeo part only but you will need these combining with your fragrance oil for your CLP to reflect your mixture. We have highlighted the sections to take note of.
First of all look at section 2.1 of the SDS. Augeo Clean Multi is an eye irritant, category 2, H319: causes serious eye irritation. Section 2.2 gives you the information which must be on the CLP label.
It is down to you, the manufacturer to add the appropriate precautionary phrase for the product and scenario. This is often missed off many CLP labels that we see. We have highlighted the phrases that we feel are appropriate in bold for a reed diffuser bottle and listed these below:
SECTION 2: Hazards Identification
Eye irritation, Category 2
H319: Causes serious eye irritation.
2.2 Label Elements
Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008
Hazardous products which must be listed on the label
CAS-No. 100-79-8
Contains: 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethanol
Pictogram
Signal word
Warning
Hazard statements
H319 Causes serious eye irritation.
Precautionary statements
Prevention
P264 Wash skin thoroughly after handling.
P280 Wear protective gloves/ eye protection/ face protection.
Response
P305 + P351 + P338 IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses,if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
- P337 + P313 If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/ attention.
2.3 Other hazards which do not result in classification
None known.
Note we have not accounted for any hazards from the fragrance oil as these differ from one fragrance oil to the next. We don't feel that P280 (wear protective gloves...) is appropriate for the user of a reed diffuser and so we do not feel that this needs to be included in the CLP label.
