Zen Fragrance Oil Review

Posted by andrew sanderson on

We tested a batch of new fragrance oils this summer then placed an order for early autumn delivery along with our regular re stock fragrance oils. Zen was one of the new fragrance oils that we ordered. No other oil supplier in the UK stocks this version of fragrance oil although there are other oils with the same name.

Here are the fragrance notes:

Top notes of lime zest, midnight orange and Alpine ash eucalyptus followed by mid notes of black velvet rose and clove, finishing with base notes of vanilla, charred sandalwood, benzoin, amber and musk.

We added 8g oil to 100g soy 494 then melted an 8g piece in a large open plan room. When this starts to melt there is a gorgeous soft woody aroma. Initially it smells like fresh sandalwood, rounded and smooth with slightly sweet vanilla notes. Once it has fully melted you can smell the slightly charred notes. It isn’t like a burning fire, as our crackling firewood is and it isn’t smokey like our incense fragrance oils are. This is a more smooth and rounded fragrance, just as if sandalwood was gently smouldering. This is a strong fragrance, it carries well through the house and fills the first floor but it is smooth and calming rather than having lots of exhilarating top notes.

The original name for this fragrance oil was charred Santal (Sandalwood). We thought this may be lead people to think it was similar to our Sandalwood, Sandalwood and Vanilla, Crackling Firewood or the incense fragrances that we already stock. After looking up the purpose of burning (smouldering Sandalwood), the spiritual significance and how it smells we asked our customers to suggest a more suitable name. Zen was chosen as the new name for this fragrance oil. Sandalwood is burnt during meditation and cleansing rituals to calm and sooth your mind and body.

This is suitable for room sprays and reed diffusers in accordance with IFRA 51. We have a non hazardous reed diffuser base Diffusol. Using this diffuser base you can use the 25% non hazardous base CLP, no need to create a CLP as you would if you are using a hazardous base.
